What Size LED Wall Do You Need for Your Event?
A plain-English guide to renting an LED video wall in Charlotte: sizes, walls vs. columns, what to put on screen and when an LED wall beats a projector.

An LED video wall changes a room. It's bright enough to see in a fully lit ballroom, it can be as big as your stage, and it turns slides, videos and live camera shots into the centerpiece of the event.
But "LED wall" covers a lot of options, and the right size depends on your room, your audience and what you want to show. Here's a straightforward guide to choosing one.
LED wall vs. projector: which do you need?
Choose an LED wall when: - The room will be well lit, or the event is outdoors - You want a big, bright backdrop behind a stage or DJ - Your content includes video, live crowd shots or motion graphics - You want a clean, seamless look with no projector or throw distance to hide
A projector and screen can work when: - The room is small and can be darkened - You mostly need slides for a meeting or breakout session - Budget is the main concern
TVs are a third option. Mounted 65" screens work well as side screens, sponsor displays or confidence monitors facing the stage.
LED wall sizes at ATG
:
- 3' x 6' (or 3' x 8'): a compact wall for a DJ booth backdrop, a sign-in area or a small stage
- 7' x 12': a strong choice for a ballroom stage, a mid-sized gala or a dance floor backdrop
- 8' x 14': bigger rooms and bigger moments, where the wall is the focal point
- 9' x 16': our largest standard wall, for large audiences and main-stage productions
Custom configurations are possible too. For the American Talent Showcase, we built a split LED wall so performers could enter from the sides of the stage and still walk out to a massive, seamless wall facing the audience.
How to pick the right size
A few questions help narrow it down:
How far back is the last row? The farther your audience sits from the stage, the bigger the wall needs to be for text and faces to read clearly.
What's the ceiling height? A tall wall needs room above it. Check your venue's ceiling height and any chandeliers or rigging in the way.
What are you showing? Slides with text need more size than a background loop. Live camera shots of speakers need enough size for faces to read from the back.
Is it the main event or the backdrop? At a gala, the wall might carry the mission video and live auction. At a party, it might be the glowing backdrop behind the DJ.
Your production team should look at your floor plan and help you choose. That's part of what we do before every event.
Walls vs. columns
Not every room needs one big wall. LED video columns are tall, narrow screens that can flank a stage, frame a dance floor or stand around the room. At a Lincoln Charter School prom, four video wall columns lit up the dance floor. At one Bar Mitzvah, custom soccer content played on the columns all event long.
Columns also work beside a 360 booth, so guests see their slow-motion video life-size right next to them.
What to put on the screen
An LED wall is only as good as what's on it. Popular content includes:
- Presentation slides and videos for conferences and meetings
- Mission videos, sponsor loops and live auction items for galas
- Live camera shots of speakers, honorees or the dance floor
- Custom motion graphics in your brand colors or event theme
- Photo montages for Mitzvahs, anniversaries and celebrations
Your event can have its own custom motion graphics, video loops and themed visuals, playing across LED walls, TVs and screens.
Who runs it?
An LED wall isn't something you plug in and forget. Someone needs to switch between content, run live camera feeds and handle cues during the program.
Indoors and outdoors
LED walls are bright enough for outdoor events too.
